Guest Post: Fantasy Baseball Has Arrived for the WPBL

Hello again! It’s been a while.
The inaugural WPBL season is officially underway, and my wife Stephanie and I were lucky enough to be at the first game in Springfield this past weekend. I’m still working on a blog post about our experience, but in the meantime I wanted to pass along a pretty cool new fan website that was shared with me.
I’ll let Carly from Our Own Nine take it away:
We built Our Own Nine, a completely free fantasy baseball platform for the inaugural Women’s Pro Baseball League season. Our goal is to help fans learn the players, follow more games, and become more engaged with the league through fantasy baseball. Fans can immediately try a mock draft against other users or auto-picking computer teams, then create private four- or six-team leagues with friends.
Our Own Nine offers two scoring formats - Classic 5x5 Rotisserie and Linear Points. It also features snake drafts, daily lineups, live and final scoring, trades, mobile stats, and commissioner tools. There are no entry fees, subscriptions, advertisements, paid features, or prizes. It is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the WPBL. I’ve had an opportunity to poke around Our Own Nine since Carly reached out, and it looks pretty darn cool. I’m hoping I can get my first draft in before the weekend. Back when the league was announced I started brainstorming in my head how my friends and I might do a Fantasy WPBL league (maybe manual scoring like they did in the old days? seems like a lot of copy and pasting…), and so to have a tool like Our Own Nine appear, built with love and care by true fans of the new league – it’s a treat.
I encourage you to follow the links above, check it out, and share it with your friends. Just like with Our Own Nine, there’s no monetary incentive with this – I’m just genuinely excited that something like this exists, and I’m interesting in seeing it grow.
I agree with Carly that fantasy baseball is a great way to get to know players in a sports league. I experienced that when I started following MLB closely in 2007, and then with the WNBA in 2024; scrolling through the draft list continues to sear all those names into my brain, and cheering for “my” players when I’m watching on ESPN+ adds some extra intrigue to the broadcast.
